The group of twelve Gypsy “lautari” (traditional musicians), originating from a small Romanian village, introduce listeners to a musical world which includes medieval ballads, Turkish-flavoured dance tunes from the Balkans, and characteristic vocal inflections.

“The Best Gypsy Band in the World” Taraf de Haidouks was in Istanbul.
Crazy rhythms, mind-blowing melodies, magical vocals and stunning violins… With their world-famous, extraordinarily wild live performances, Taraf de Haidouks rocked Istanbul, like no one else did before!
The Taraf de Haidouks (band of honourable brigands) are a bunch of extraordinary and colourful characters, who have managed to convince the audiences of the biggest World Music and Jazz festivals allover the world such as Montreux, Womad, Roskilde and Istanbul Caz. After 5 years, Taraf de Haidouks was back in Istanbul for a stunning one-time performance.
The living legend of Gypsy music, one of the best bands of Balkan Music history, Taraf de Haidouks was with us on Saturday night, 10th of March. Along side their classic gypsy hits, the band played brand new songs from their new album, which was released in May 2007.
Venue: "garajistanbul"
Opening its doors in February 2007 garajistanbul will be a performance center that is open to unconventional and alternative performances. The venue is structured to be a flexible and re-designable empty space, with the ability to accommodate all forms of ever-changing and developing world of performing arts.
Shaman World Music Production’s 2007 events will be organized in cooperation with garajistanbul. Shaman’s World Music Days’ main venue will be garajistanbul with its 600m2 indoor space, high-ceilings, sleek interior design and state-of-the-art audio-visual technology.
With Shaman World Music Production’s and garajistanbul’s parallel perspective and mission to have a permanent place in Istanbul’s cultural scene, this cooperation reflects the exciting first step of a long-term relationship.
