DJ Yakuza
Turkish native Can Utkan, also known as DJ Yakuza, began his DJing career playing jazz and brasil in several clubs in Tokyo. Soon he started spinning at Kiss, alongside names like Jazz Brothers, U.F.O, Shuwa Tei and Silent Poets, focusing on styles like drum’n’bass, break-beat and downtempo.

Throughout his brilliant career, Talvin Singh has worked with music giants such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Bjork, Zakir Hussain and Madonna. He was awarded with the Mercury Prize, the most prestigious music award in the U.K.
One of England’s most innovative sound artists, DJ/producer/tablatronic master Talvin Singh’s consistently challenging albums and live performances have been central to the continued rise of Indian-influenced dance music. A pivotal figure in Britain’s “Asian Underground” movement during the ’90s, he has pursued his own audio explorations while also enthusiastically promoting the work of other like-minded musicians and DJs.
An electronic music genius that worked with musicians like Madonna, Bjork, Courtney Pine, Nusrat Fateh Ali Han, Blondie, Morocco’s Master Musicians of Jajouka and Dub Syndicate, Talvin Singh is also a tabla master that was endorsed by Zakir Hussain. A dedicated fusionist with both an uncanny ear for melody and an innate talent for complex rhythms, Talvin Singh always seems to be one-step ahead of his electronic contemporaries.
10th of February, started to kick off with ShamanSoundCoop. DJs and continued with DJ Yakuza’s gig. Later at night, Talvin Singh rocked the venue with his special performance, which was designed exclusively for Shaman..

Opening its doors in February 2007 garajistanbul will be a performance center that is open to unconventional and alternative performances. The venue is structured to be a flexible and re-designable empty space, with the ability to accommodate all forms of ever-changing and developing world of performing arts.
Shaman World Music Production’s 2007 events will be organized in cooperation with garajistanbul. Shaman’s World Music Days’ main venue will be garajistanbul with its 600m2 indoor space, high-ceilings, sleek interior design and state-of-the-art audio-visual technology.
With Shaman World Music Production’s and garajistanbul’s parallel perspective and mission to have a permanent place in Istanbul’s cultural scene, this cooperation reflects the exciting first step of a long-term relationship.
