Shaman World Music Days 1 Focus>> Africa was held on Saturday, 11th of March, 2006, through a magical night at the majestic atmosphere of the Ottoman Imperial Mint buildings. The event attracted great attention and participation, with more than 800 people at the venue and many media representatives. The audience had reached the limits of musical satisfaction through the spectacular performances of Cheikh Lô and DJ Shazam. It was difficult to find an empty spot during Dr. Feza Tansuğ's West African Music Workshop. The workshop was followed by DJ Gürkan Uçak's set that took the audience back to Shaman World Music Club's nights of relentless joy and dance.

Shaman World Music Days 1's main performance was by Cheikh Lô and his band. The performance was a part of the European tour of Cheikh's brand new album "Lamp Fall" which has anchored to the World Music Charts Europe Top Ten List, staying there for 5 months, and more to come. Istanbul was Cheikh's last stop after performing at various cities including London, Paris and Barcelona, and his performance at Darphane-i Amire was surely one of the most special of all. Cheikh Lô singed tracks from Lamp Fall and his older hits, rocking the scene both with his great vocals, drumming and brilliant orchestra as well as his brilliant Senegalese dancing skills.

DJ Shazam, who took the scene after Cheikh Lô grabbed the audience and swung them to distant lands and virtual spaces. His performance was accompanied by the multimedia artist VJ Nono from Amsterdam, who presented a surreal visual performance, mixing the specially designed visual material and reflecting them to the projectors and screens.

Dr. Feza Tansuğ's workshop titled West African and Senegalese Musical Forms realized with active audience participation and attracted great attention.

DJ Gürkan Uçak took the audience back to the Shaman World Music Club nights' relentless joy and dance, presenting the best danceable samples of world music.
